The Manor Wildcats PTSA will host a Scholastic Book Fair from March 4 to March 8 in the Computer Lab Hallway. The fair will also be open to the public from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 7, for “Snuggle up and Read.” Books can be purchased and students will have a chance to listen to stories read by staff and community members. Cash will be accepted, as will eWallet payments. Shopping may also be done online, with free shipping to the buyers home for orders of $25 or more. Livingston Manor Library began hosting a monthly Sensory Play Series for children and their families in February. The Sensory Play Series targets neurodiverse children ages 3-10 and their families and seeks to provide children with an experience that is flexible and responsive to their natural play style. It is inclusive of the whole family, offering caregivers tools and games they can play at home to further connect with their child. Each month will model sensory play, focusing on a different sense i.e. sight, sound, touch, smell, taste and movement/balance led by artist and producer Jess Kaufman. The second program, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 9, will focus on smell. There will be musical accompaniment by Joe Bergstein. For Valentine’s Day, Ms. Maraj had Mrs. Rojas’ K-2 class do music and movement with scarves along to the song “All You Need Is Love” by The Beatles.
Kindergarten and K1-2 classes continued the tradition of celebrating Lunar Chinese New Year with a walk to the Chinatown Kitchen for a delicious lunch together. LMCS honored two former colleagues last week by wearing flannel and Audra Sipple Spath Scholarship shirts. Grant Wehrfritz and Audra Sipple Spath each taught at Livingston Manor Elementary School for more than 30 years and were good friends. Audra was the coordinator of honoring Grant for National Flannel Day since he had such a "flair" for sporting his flannels on each school day. Since Grant's death, LMCS has celebrated National Flannel Day annually in his honor and chose to honor Audra this year as well.

On Saturday, Feb. 10, LMCS had two FFA members compete at the Leadership Development Event Invitational at Sullivan West. There were several students from three school districts that competed in various contests. Savannah Ward placed third in the Senior Creed Speaking Contest and Andrew Freidenstine placed second in the Junior Creed Speaking Contest. They will compete at the District 2 LDE in Pine Plains on Saturday, Feb. 24.

PreK-1 is from 3:00 to 4:15, 2nd -4th is 4:30 to 5:45, & 5th & 6th is from 6:00 to 7:15. Admission is 5.00 and concessions will be available for purchase. The 65th Annual Livingston Manor Rotary Ice Carnival/Family Day will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, in Rotary Park on Pleasant Street. As part of the Ice Carnival tradition, LMCS students Luca Larizzati and Ciarra Staudt were named Ice Carnival king and queen during last month's Ice Carnival dance. The carnival will offer horse wagon rides, face painting, a balloon artist, hot dogs, cocoa and games and is free and open to the public.
Students recently worked on the art of papier-mache creating animals during the afterschool program.
While learning about the different states of matter, Ms. Williams' fifth graders did an experiment to see what would happen when baking soda was poured into a water bottle with vinegar. The students saw that the balloon filled up with carbon dioxide when the two substances met.
The Sullivan County Volunteer Firefighters Association held its annual fire prevention poster contest. Most LMCS students in grades 1-5 participated. The theme was being safe in the kitchen. Bryce Edwards won first place and a $50 gift card. In addition, Bryce’s artwork will be showcased this summer in the SCVFA parade.
Whitney Misner won third place and a $25 gift card. Congratulations!
On Jan. 30, Livingston Manor and Roscoe Girls JV/Varsity Basketball hosted their annual pink out cancer awareness contests. This was a joint effort with LMCS & RCS Varsity Girls Cheerleading and the Tri-Valley CSD and their programs.
The group, with the help of some local volunteers, was able to bring in more than $600 in donations to support a Sullivan County volunteer organization Ride 2 Survive, which gives back to individuals going through cancer treatments that may be in need financially. We thank the volunteers, the athletes and the communities for all of their support in this wonderful night to support a great cause locally. Big Shout out to the Roscoe-Rockland Ladies Auxiliary for providing pink socks for all of the LMCS & RCS athletes to wear!
The LMCS Ski Club enjoyed their first trip to Holiday Mountain Ski & Fun Park on Friday, Jan. 26. Students in grades 3-12 were invited to attend a six-week program for school groups. Ski Club is an annual opportunity for students to get active and get outside during the winter months, have fun with friends, and develop a lifelong skill!
